Upper Red Lake, Big Bog State Recreation Area Live Cam

A fixed camera on top of the fire tower in Big Bog State Recreation Area looks out over Upper Red Lake in northern Minnesota. Open water fills the middle of the frame, with a belt of treetops along the shore below it.

The tower is about 100 feet tall and stands next to the visitor center on the edge of Waskish in Beltrami County, about one kilometer north of the middle of the village. Visitors can climb it while the visitor center is open. The northern unit of the recreation area, with the Big Bog Boardwalk, lies about 14 kilometers further north.

Upper Red Lake is one of the two basins of Red Lake, the largest natural freshwater lake located entirely within Minnesota. From the tower the open water stretches to a low, flat horizon, and in winter the frozen lake is a popular destination for ice fishing.
