Weather and time
The South Oval is the long green at the centre of the University of Oklahoma campus in Norman, south of Oklahoma City. The camera looks north up the lawn towards the entrance and the Seed Sower statue.
Frank Lloyd Wright called the style here Cherokee Gothic and the name stuck: the buildings around this lawn are Gothic in outline, worked in brick and Oklahoma limestone.
Norman was laid out in a single day in the land run of 1889, and the university opened three years later, before Oklahoma was a state. The figure on the plinth is taken from the university seal and represents the first president planting the trees that now line the oval.
