Rows of parked scooters line the kerb beneath this Banqiao webcam, and the tree canopy of a neighbourhood park fills the far side of the road. Banqiao is the administrative seat of New Taipei, the most populous municipality in Taiwan.

The district grew around the Lin Family Mansion and Garden, a 19th-century merchant estate that still stands a short walk from here. Around it are dense blocks of flats, ground-floor shops and small restaurants, which is why the pavement traffic rarely stops for long.

Scooters are the ordinary way to move through this part of the city, and the parking bays in view fill and empty through the day. Metro stations on the Banqiao and Circular lines are within a few streets, so foot traffic picks up at the ends of the working day.
