Puppies, ECAD, Winchester Live Cam

A whelping pen at ECAD fills this view, at an assistance-dog organisation in Winchester, Connecticut. A litter of pale Labrador puppies sleeps in a heap on the mat, with the pen wall closing the frame behind them.

The dogs bred here are trained to work with people with disabilities and with veterans, a process that takes about two years from birth to placement. The first weeks are spent in this room; after that the puppies go out to volunteer raisers before returning for formal training.

At this age the picture is mostly sleeping, feeding and short bursts of movement. As the litter grows the pen gets busier and the camera shows them walking and playing.
