Point Loma, San Diego Live Cam

Sunset Cliffs run along the western edge of the Point Loma peninsula at San Diego, in southern California. The webcam looks out over the sandstone and the Pacific.

The cliffs are crumbling and always have been. Sandstone over shale gives way in slabs after wet winters, and the path along the top is fenced and re-fenced as sections drop into the sea.

Cabrillo came ashore at the far end of this peninsula in 1542, the first European landing on what is now the west coast of the United States. The lighthouse built above it in 1855 was too high to be useful and spent half its nights above the fog.
