Italian Market 9th St, Philadelphia Live Cam

The 9th Street Market runs for about ten blocks through South Philadelphia, with stalls and awnings out over the pavement. The camera looks down the street from above the shopfronts.

The market claims to be the oldest continuously working outdoor market in the country, trading since the 1880s. In winter the traders burn wood in oil drums along the kerb, which is the detail most people remember about the place.

Butchers, fishmongers, cheese shops and produce stands hold the older buildings and taquerias and Vietnamese grocers hold the rest. A running scene filmed here in 1976 did more for the street's fame than a century of trading had.
