Weather and time

This camera looks down the North Umpqua River in Winchester, Oregon, toward the arches of the Old Winchester Bridge. Rocky rapids with grassy islets fill the foreground, and forested hills rise behind the far bank.

The Old Winchester Bridge is a reinforced concrete ribbed deck arch from the 1920s, designed by the Oregon engineer Conde McCullough. It spans the river just downstream of Winchester Dam, in Douglas County a short way north of Roseburg. The North Umpqua is known for its runs of steelhead and salmon.

The camera is fixed and always shows the same view from the riverbank upstream of the bridge. The bridge runs along the right side of the frame and recedes toward the far shore, so the scene changes with the river flow, the light and the seasons on the wooded slopes.
