Weather and time
This webcam looks north-northeast from a ridge above Chakachamna Lake toward the snow-covered summit of Mount Spurr in Alaska. The volcano rises to 3,374 meters about 125 kilometers west of Anchorage.
The camera stands at about 1,270 meters above sea level, roughly 12.5 kilometers (7.8 miles) south-southwest of the summit. Mount Spurr is a stratovolcano at the northeastern end of the Aleutian volcanic arc, and Crater Peak on its southern flank erupted in 1992. Seismic stations and webcams keep watch on it.
The view is not fixed: the time, temperature, pan and tilt values are printed in the corner of the image, and at the top of each hour the camera turns away from the summit, for example down to the solar panel and mast of its own station. The stream follows a power-saving schedule, so the picture can pause between scheduled sessions.
