Anchorage is the headquarters of the state-owned Alaska Railroad, whose line runs from Seward through Anchorage to Fairbanks. The camera looks over the yard from near East Whitney Road, in the Ship Creek industrial area.

The nearest tracks hold tank cars and gondolas loaded with scrap, with yellow track machines at the right edge. Farther back, flatcars carry shipping containers past the shop buildings, and floodlights keep the yard lit after dark.
