Mirabella Perdido Key, Florida Live Cam

A boardwalk crosses the dunes to the beach at Perdido Key, a barrier island west of Pensacola on the Gulf coast of Florida. The webcam stands on a condominium above the dune line and looks out over the sand.

The sand is quartz carried down from the Appalachians and ground fine enough to squeak underfoot. Most of the island is protected, split between Perdido Key State Park and the Gulf Islands National Seashore.

Hurricane Ivan cut across the key in 2004 and rearranged the shoreline, opening and closing passes that had been stable for decades. The state line with Alabama runs through the middle of the island, so one end is Florida and the other is not.
