Inlet Reef Beach Destin, Florida Live Cam

The beach at Destin opens out below this webcam, on the Gulf of Mexico coast of the Florida panhandle. White quartz sand fills the foreground, umbrellas are set out in a line, and the water shades from pale green to blue.

The sand along this coast is quartz washed down from the Appalachians and ground fine, which is why it is white and stays cool underfoot. Destin grew from a fishing village and still runs one of the larger charter fleets in the country.

The Gulf here is shallow and usually calm, and the colour of the water in the frame is a fair gauge of how clear it is that day. Hurricane season runs from June to November.
