Jack Rabbit Trading Post, Joseph City Live Cam

This pan-tilt camera at Jack Rabbit Trading Post in Joseph City, Arizona, looks across the old Route 66 roadway at the BNSF Gallup Subdivision. The view changes between wide shots of the plain and close shots of passing freight trains.

Joseph City lies east of Winslow, and the trading post has stood on Route 66 since 1949, known for its Here It Is billboard. Interstate 40 now carries the through traffic, while the old highway still runs beside the tracks. Amtrak's Southwest Chief uses the same line as the BNSF freights.

The widest view shows the worn asphalt road, a row of wooden utility poles, a roadside sign, the rails behind low desert scrub and a flat-topped mesa on the horizon. In another position the camera tilts up to poles, wires and sky, and in another it zooms in on container trains stacked two high.
