Dubuque Courthouse Falcon Nest, Front View Live Cam

This camera views a falcon nest box set on the carved stone cornice of the historic courthouse in downtown Dubuque, Iowa, from one side. A square stone pier rises next to the box, and red brick fills the wall behind it.

Completed in the early 1890s, the courthouse on Central Avenue is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Its mix of red brick, pale stone and ornate carving makes it one of the best-known public buildings in the city. Peregrine falcons have made a fifth-floor ledge of it their nesting site, and their eggs usually appear in early spring.

This angle takes in the edge of the ledge, the carved brackets beneath the cornice and a tall arched window on the right. A street with a lamppost is visible far below at lower left. Pale streaks on the brickwork mark where birds often perch above the box.
