Weather and time
From the platform of the Decatur Union Depot in Alabama, the view runs west across several tracks to a road crossing in the distance. Black iron railings and old baggage carts frame the foreground.
Southern Railway built the depot in 1905, and passenger trains used it until 1979, when Amtrak's Floridian was cancelled. Today it is a railroad museum run by Decatur Parks and Recreation. It stands about a quarter mile south of the railroad bridge over the Tennessee River, and the tracks in front of it carry freight trains to and from that crossing.
The depot roof edge covers the upper left corner. Several tracks run from the lower right toward the crossing, with white utility cabinets on the gravel, a lattice tower, utility poles and trees along the horizon.
