Weather and time
A fixed camera on a curved roof at Sloss Furnaces in Birmingham, Alabama, looks across the museum grounds to the downtown skyline. A rust-stained industrial tower and an elevated roadway stand between the lens and the office buildings.
Sloss Furnaces made pig iron from 1882 to 1971 and is now a National Historic Landmark and museum. The site lies on the strip of land that Birmingham's original plan reserved for railroads and industry. A short distance west of the grounds, the CSX Boyles Terminal Subdivision crosses Norfolk Southern's West End District at a railroad diamond.
The frame shows a signal gantry and a curve of track at the left, a parking lot and lawn with a rusted piece of equipment in the middle, and the skyline rising behind the viaduct.
