Weather and time
Clevedon Marine Lake is seen from the promenade at its northern end, looking along the walled seawater pool towards a wooded hillside. A miniature golf course and the stone parapet fill the foreground, with the pebble shore and the Severn Estuary on the right.
Opened in 1929, the lake encloses part of Salthouse Bay behind a sea wall and is refreshed with seawater when spring tides spill over it. After decades of decline it was restored by a volunteer charity and is used again for swimming and boating. Poets' Walk begins at its south-western corner and climbs onto the wooded hills.
The view runs the full length of the lake to the flagpoles and buildings at the foot of the hill. Each autumn and spring the pool is drained so volunteers can clear silt left by the tides, and the bare bed stays in view until a high tide refills it.
