Valencia del Mombuey Bird Feeder Live Cam

A feeding station for birds of prey lies in front of this webcam at Valencia del Mombuey, in Extremadura, Spain. A kite lands on the bare tree in the middle of the frame, with dry pasture and holm oaks behind it.

The station belongs to a European project on the red kite, which tracks tagged birds by GPS to work out where and why they die — poisoning, power lines, poaching. Griffon vultures, kites and corvids all come to the carcasses put out here, and the Spanish partner monitors kite mortality across the southwest.

Numbers rise in winter, when kites from northern Europe move down to Iberia. Birds arrive shortly after feeding and the tree in view empties again within the hour.
