Riet Vell Lagoon, Ebro Delta Live Cam

This camera looks across the freshwater lagoon of the Riet Vell bird reserve in the Ebro Delta, near Amposta in southern Catalonia. Wooden platforms topped with orange roof tiles float among clumps of reeds, with trees and a mountain ridge behind.

Riet Vell lies on the southern side of the delta, in the province of Tarragona. The reserve combines organically farmed rice paddies with a restored lagoon, showing that rice growing and wetland wildlife can share the same land. A visitor centre and a bird hide stand beside the water.

The fixed camera stands next to the observation hide and faces over open water toward the far shore. Low islands of rushes break up the surface between the tiled rafts, and on clear days wind turbines can be made out along the ridge on the horizon.
