Monterrey, Mexico Live Cam

Monterrey lies in a bowl among the ridges of the Sierra Madre Oriental, in the north-east corner of Mexico. The webcam takes in the city, a telecom mast in the foreground and the mountains behind.

This is the industrial capital of the country: steel, cement, glass and brewing built it, and the metropolitan area now holds more than five million people. It was founded in 1596 and stayed small for three centuries, until the railway arrived.

Water is the limit here. The city sits in semi-desert and depends on reservoirs that empty in a bad year; through the summer of 2022 the taps ran for a few hours a day. The saddle-shaped hill on the far side of town is the emblem it puts on everything.
