Shinagawa Container Terminal Live Cam

Container cranes work the terminal at Shinagawa on the western side of Tokyo Bay, in front of the webcam. Coasters and lighters pass between the quay and the city skyline.

Almost all of this ground is made. Tokyo Bay has been filled in stages since the seventeenth century, first for the castle town and later for docks, refuse and airports; the shoreline has moved several kilometres out from where it was.

Shinagawa itself was the first post station on the Tokaido road out of Edo, a day's walk from the palace, where travellers stopped before entering the city. The station a kilometre inland is now among the busiest in the country.
