Weather and time
Busena Beach in Nago on Okinawa Island curves beneath the camera, its pale sand edging a turquoise lagoon with dark coral patches. A roped-off swimming area lies near the shore, and boats are moored at a jetty on the right.
The beach is in the Kise district of Nago, on the west coast of Okinawa Island facing the East China Sea. Cape Busena just to the north has a marine park with an underwater observation tower about 170 metres offshore. The cape's Bankoku Shinryokan conference centre hosted the G8 summit in 2000.
The view looks south-west from above the orange-tiled roofs of a beachfront resort, taking in the whole sweep of sand and its row of umbrellas. Wooded rocky islets lie past the far end of the beach, with hotels and green hills behind them. Open sea fills the right of the frame, where the autumn sun sets over the water.
