Weather and time
From the summit of Mount Þorbjörn above Grindavík, this camera looks across mossy crags and the dark lava fields of the Reykjanes Peninsula. A dirt track winds below the rocky rim, and the long flat ridge of Fagradalsfjall closes the horizon.
Þorbjörn is a 243-metre volcanic mountain between the town of Grindavík and the Svartsengi geothermal plant beside the Blue Lagoon. A deep canyon called Þjófagjá cuts across its top. Since 2021 the area has seen repeated eruptions, first at Fagradalsfjall and later along the Sundhnúkur crater row, and fresh lava now covers large areas north of the town.
Instead of a crater close-up, the camera gives a wide view from high on the mountain, with the jagged summit ridge along the right edge of the frame. Thin white plumes rise in places above the dark lava, while a road crosses the lower left corner.
