Nokkalan Majakka, Espoo Live Cam

The café at Nokkala marina stands on the shore of the Gulf of Finland at Espoo, immediately west of Helsinki. The camera looks over the pontoons and the water from the building.

The sea here freezes solid from about January, and the marina empties into a flat white plain that people walk, ski and skate across until the thaw. The boats go back in around May.

Espoo is the second largest city in Finland but has no real centre: it grew as a set of separate districts, and the national technology university and the headquarters of its best-known company are both in it rather than in the capital next door.
