Weather and time
This camera near Gothic, Colorado, looks north up the upper East River valley toward the rust-colored peaks of the Elk Mountains. In front lies an open meadow of low shrubs and stones, with dark conifers and aspen groves on the slopes.
The East River begins at Emerald Lake, roughly seven kilometers northwest of Gothic, and flows south for about 62 kilometers to meet the Taylor River and form the Gunnison River. Above the old mining townsite, a gravel road follows the valley past the lake to Schofield Pass, a rough summer crossing of the range.
Unlike the second camera at the same weather station, which faces the cliffs of Gothic Mountain, this one looks along the valley floor. A broad double summit sits in the middle of the frame, with a jagged red ridge and higher peaks farther right.
