Tehachapi Train, California Live Cam

A container train rolls past the vineyard at Edison, at the foot of the Tehachapi grade east of Bakersfield, California. Headlights cut through the valley haze in the early morning.

Union Pacific owns this line and BNSF runs over it under trackage rights, so both fleets pass the camera. Dozens of freights use the route on an ordinary day, and it carries almost no passenger traffic.

The climb itself begins beyond the frame: eighteen tunnels and the spiral at Tehachapi Loop, where a long train crosses over its own tail. The camera is provided by Giumarra Vineyards in Kern County, on the flat ground where trains are still building speed.
