Myrtle Beach is the largest resort town on the Grand Strand, the chain of beaches on the South Carolina coast. South of downtown, South Ocean Boulevard runs parallel to the shore past oceanfront hotels and condominiums. Here a broad belt of dune grass lies between the buildings and the sand, crossed by sandy paths with low fences.
