Soo Locks, Sault Ste. Marie Live Cam

This camera looks out from the Tower of History over the Soo Locks and the Saint Marys River in Sault Sainte Marie, Michigan. Its view turns between the river, the lock area and the downtown streets below.

The Soo Locks lift and lower ships by about 21 feet (6 m) where the river drops between Lake Superior and the lower Great Lakes. Lake freighters and ocean-going vessels use them, and the Canadian city of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, faces the town across the water. The tower rises 210 feet (64 m) above the locks and has two observation decks.

The wide river view shows shoreline docks, a moored museum ship and the Ontario waterfront. Turned toward the locks, the camera shows lock walls with tugs and construction cranes, and another position looks down on downtown streets. At high zoom it reads the names on the hulls of passing freighters.
