Peregrine Falcon Nest Box, Nebraska State Capitol Live Cam

This camera looks down into the peregrine falcon nest box near the top of the Nebraska State Capitol tower in Lincoln, Nebraska. The wooden box holds a bed of pebbles, and past its rim the view drops to the streets around the Capitol grounds.

Peregrine falcons do not build stick nests; instead they scrape a shallow hollow into gravel on a ledge, so the box is filled with stones. It is fixed to the 18th floor of the Capitol, whose tower is about 400 feet tall. A pair nested here between 2005 and 2016, and three chicks hatched in May 2024.

Mounted just above the box, the camera takes in the whole gravel floor, the wooden rim and the posts of its roof. Far below on the left lie the Capitol lawn, a wide street and an office building with a carved relief on its facade.
