Osprey Perch, Carova Beach Live Cam

This camera faces west from an osprey nesting platform in Carova Beach, North Carolina, across the birds' wooden perch to a long canal. Bulkheaded lawns line the right bank, while a live oak leans in from the left beside the mouth of a side canal.

The platform stands about seven meters high beside a brackish canal, roughly a quarter of a mile from Knotts Island Bay and three quarters of a mile from the Atlantic. Its T-shaped perch on the western side is where the ospreys roost and look out over the water. Carova Beach, with no paved road, stretches north from here to the Virginia line.

Unlike the nest camera on the same platform, this view takes in a long stretch of the canal, so passing boats and their wakes are easy to follow. Two bird feeders hang from the perch arms, and in the morning the water is lit from behind the camera.
