Kitty Hawk Beach, Outer Banks Live Cam

This camera looks east from the dunes of Kitty Hawk, on North Carolina's Outer Banks, across a wide sandy beach to the Atlantic Ocean. Wooden sand fences line the dune in the foreground, and a rope-edged path leads down to the beach at the lower right.

Kitty Hawk is one of the oceanfront towns on the narrow barrier islands of the Outer Banks. Cottages line its beachfront along the Beach Road, while the maritime forest of Kitty Hawk Woods lies on the sound side of town. The name became famous through the Wright brothers, who made their first powered flights in 1903 on the Kill Devil Hills just to the south.

The fixed view points straight out to sea. On calm days the water lies flat and blue beyond a single line of breakers, while storm swells fill the frame with whitewater almost up to the foot of the dune.
