The bay at Bang Rak opens out below this view, on the northeastern corner of Koh Samui in southern Thailand. A long jetty runs out into the shallow water, with fishing boats moored beyond it and hills closing the far shore.

The Bang Rak pier is where the ferries and speedboats leave for Koh Phangan, and the water here is too shallow for swimming but ideal for boats. The Big Buddha temple stands on a small island off the point, joined to the shore by a causeway.

This side of the island is quieter than the resort beaches and the light in the afternoon comes across the bay. Of the Samui cameras in the catalogue this is the one that shows working boats rather than sunbeds.
