Vatra Dornei, Romania Live Cam

The Dorna runs under a road bridge in the middle of Vatra Dornei, a spa town in the Carpathians in northern Romania. The webcam takes in the river, the traffic and the old bath casino behind them.

That building went up between 1896 and 1898, when this was the eastern edge of Austria-Hungary and the springs were being developed for visitors. It stood empty and open to the weather for decades before restoration work brought it back.

The water is naturally carbonated: gas rising through old volcanic rock charges it underground, and the town gave its name to a mineral water sold across the country. Vatra Dornei is in Suceava county, in the part of Bukovina that stayed in Romania, and works as a ski town through the winter.
