Republic Square, Făgăraș Live Cam

Republic Square, the central square of Făgăraș in Romania's Brașov County, opens out below this view from its western end. Two-storey houses with tiled roofs line both sides, and trees, wooden kiosks and a bus shelter stand on the paving.

Făgăraș lies on the Olt River at the northern foot of the Făgăraș Mountains, between Brașov and Sibiu. Its best-known landmark is the moated Făgăraș Citadel, begun in 1310, which later served as a princely residence and, from 1950, as a prison for political detainees.

The fixed camera looks east from the western side of the square, over a road with pedestrian crossings and parking bays. A long pale building closes the far end, with the pointed tower roofs of the citadel behind it and the gilded dome of the Orthodox Cathedral of Saint John the Baptist above the rooftops on the right.
