Kristiansund Harbor Live Cam

Kristiansund is built on four islands, and the camera looks across the sound at the western end of Nordlandet. The church, the ferry quay and the Nordsund bridge are all in the picture.

Small boats have connected those islands since 1876 and still do. The Sundbåt works a fixed circuit between the quays and is usually described as the oldest public transport service anywhere that has never stopped running.

The town was built on klippfisk: cod split, salted and dried on the bare rock, a trade started here in the 1690s by a Scottish merchant and sold on to Portugal, Spain and Brazil. Kristiansund also keeps the oldest opera company in Norway, founded in 1928.
