Sarzana Town, Liguria Live Cam

Sarzana lies at the eastern end of Liguria, on the plain of the Magra river a few kilometres in from the sea. The webcam looks north over the town and the Via Aurelia.

The Bonaparte family came from here. They were Sarzana notaries and merchants until a branch moved to Corsica in the sixteenth century, two hundred years before the one member of it anybody remembers was born.

The fortress on the hill was rebuilt by Lorenzo de' Medici in 1487, when Florence bought the town to get a foothold on this coast. The Carrara marble quarries show as white scars on the mountains to the south-east.
