Athens livecam, Greece Live Cam

This camera sits high on Mount Hymettus and looks west over the whole of Athens, in the region of Attica in Greece. A line of weather readings runs along the bottom of the picture.

The mountain behind it has been quarried for marble and famous for its honey since antiquity, and ancient writers wrote about the violet colour it turns at sunset, which is still the best thing about the view from this side.

The city below fills a basin closed by four mountains, with the Acropolis on a limestone outcrop near the middle. The basin traps air, which is why the haze in the picture is a permanent feature.
