Kilpisjärvi North View, Lapland Live Cam

This wide-angle camera looks north over the village of Kilpisjärvi in Finnish Lapland toward the lake and the fells beyond. A large fell rises on the right, while houses and birch scrub fill the slope in front of the lens.

Kilpisjärvi is a small village in the municipality of Enontekiö, in the far northwest of Finland near the Norwegian border. It lies at about 69 degrees north, well inside the Arctic Circle, on the shore of the lake that gives it its name. The landscape is open fell country with only low trees, so the views are wide in every direction.

Facing north, the camera puts the lake and the distant ridges in the centre of the frame, with houses scattered on the hillside below. The lens takes in a lot of sky, so the picture shows changing clouds and twilight and, at night, northern lights when they appear.
