Rio Uruguai, RS Live Cam

The Uruguay River divides Santa Catarina from Rio Grande do Sul, and the webcam looks down on it from a viewpoint near Nonoai. The bridge in the middle distance is the Goio-Ên crossing between the two states.

The water is wide and slow here because it is held back. The Foz do Chapecó dam, finished in 2011, flooded a long stretch of the valley upstream and moved several thousand people off the banks.

The Uruguay is formed further east where the Canoas meets the Pelotas, and runs about 1,800 kilometres from there to the Río de la Plata, marking a state boundary and then a national one for most of its length.
