Weather and time
A raised wooden boardwalk crosses grassy dunes to the Gulf of Mexico beach in the southern part of South Padre Island, Texas. Halfway to the sand a second walkway joins it, and long lines of white surf roll in beyond the wide beach.
South Padre Island is a resort town in Cameron County at the southern end of Padre Island, the longest barrier island in the world. The Laguna Madre separates it from the mainland, and the Queen Isabella Memorial Causeway links it to Port Isabel. Isla Blanca Park, a county park at the southern tip of the island, begins about a kilometre to the south.
The camera looks east from an elevated point on a beachfront hotel, so dune grass and shrubs fill the lower half of the picture. Beachgoers walk the boardwalk to the water and back, and the open Gulf horizon spans the whole view.
