OSU Ship Operations Pier, Newport Live Cam

Yaquina Bay opens out beyond the working dock in this view from the Oregon State University pier in Newport, Oregon. The far shore carries the houses and low buildings of the town, climbing the slope above the water.

The pier belongs to the Hatfield Marine Science Center, the coastal campus of the university and the base for its ocean research fleet. Vessels tie up here between cruises, and the dock has been rebuilt to take a larger regional-class research ship.

Weather on this stretch of the Oregon coast changes quickly, and the live stream often shows low cloud sitting on the hills across the bay. Vans, containers and gear on the apron mark the ordinary business of loading and unloading a research vessel.
