Memphis Zoo Cub, Tennessee Live Cam

Tiger cubs share an indoor den with their mother at Memphis Zoo, in the south-western corner of Tennessee. The webcam looks down into the pen from one corner.

Cubs are born blind and helpless and stay with the mother for close to two years, learning to hunt in the second of them. A litter of two or three is normal, and in the wild not all of them usually survive it.

Zoo tigers are bred to a plan that tracks the ancestry of every animal in North American collections and pairs them to keep the gene pool as wide as it can be kept. Some of the subspecies held that way now number in the low hundreds in the wild.
