Grand Hotel, Mackinac Island Live Cam

The Grand Hotel looks down Cadotte Avenue on Mackinac Island, in the straits between the two peninsulas of Michigan. The camera shares that view, with houses, trees and Lake Huron beyond.

Motor vehicles have been banned on the island since 1898, so everything moves by horse, bicycle or foot. Freight arrives by ferry and goes on a dray; the hotel meets guests with a carriage.

The hotel opened in 1887 and has a front porch of 660 feet, the longest of any hotel anywhere. The white tower offshore is the Round Island Passage Light, and the season here runs from about May to late October before the straits ice over.
