Royal Kona Resort, Hawaii Live Cam

Kailua Bay lies on the dry western side of the island of Hawaii, with the town of Kailua-Kona along its shore. The webcam looks over the water from a resort at one end.

Kamehameha, who united the islands, spent his last years at the northern end of this bay and died there in 1819; the reconstructed thatched temple on the point is his. The bay is sheltered by the bulk of the island itself, which takes the trade wind.

The Ironman triathlon has started with a swim across this water every October since 1981. Manta rays feed on plankton drawn to lights along this coast after dark, which is the other reason boats gather offshore at night.
