Castro Street, California Live Cam

Castro Street climbs south from Market past the shopfronts and Victorian flats that make up the middle of the district, in San Francisco. The webcam looks up the block from the north end, over the painted crossing.

The Castro Theatre stands on this stretch, a 1922 cinema by Timothy Pflueger with a Wurlitzer that still rises out of the pit before screenings. Its neon blade sign is the tallest thing on the street.

The rainbow crossings were painted in 2014 and the flags on the lampposts are permanent. The hill closing the view is Twin Peaks, and the buses working past are the 24 Divisadero, which has crossed the district since the streetcars were lifted.
