Monon Blvd, Carmel Live Cam

The Monon Trail runs down the middle of a boulevard in Carmel, Indiana, on the line of a railway that closed in the 1980s. The webcam looks along it past a tall faceted sculpture called Sail.

The Monon was a freight and passenger line between Indianapolis and Chicago. The rails were lifted and the corridor paved, and the path now runs about thirty kilometres through the northern suburbs; this stretch was rebuilt with a road either side of it.

Midtown, the district along this section, was warehouses and a lumber yard until the 2010s. Building over the trail rather than beside it was the whole point: the flats and offices face the path and the parking is round the back.
