La Manga Club, Cartagena Live Cam

La Manga Club is a golf resort in the hills behind the Mar Menor, in the province of Murcia in south-eastern Spain. The camera looks over the fairways towards the lagoon.

The Mar Menor is the largest saltwater lagoon in Europe, cut off from the Mediterranean by a sandbar twenty kilometres long. Nitrate running off the irrigated farmland around it has stripped the oxygen from the water more than once, and tonnes of dead fish washed ashore in 2019 and again in 2021.

In 2022 the Spanish parliament gave the lagoon legal personhood after a citizens' petition, the first ecosystem in Europe to be granted it, so that it can be represented in court in its own name.
