Brass Bell Surf, Kalk Bay Live Cam

The reef at Kalk Bay breaks below this view on False Bay, on the Cape Peninsula in the south of South Africa. Waves break over a tidal pool below the lens, and the railway and the mountain slope run along the shoreline behind.

The stream comes from a restaurant built on the rocks between the railway line and the sea, which is what puts the camera this close to the water. Trains between Cape Town and Simon's Town run within metres of the surf, and surfers use the camera to judge the reef.

False Bay water is warmer than the Atlantic side of the peninsula, and southeasterly wind in summer blows offshore here. Winter swell puts water right over the pool in view.
