Rynek Główny Square Live Cam

Rynek Główny in Kraków is one of the largest medieval squares in Europe, two hundred metres along each side. The camera looks across it towards the Cloth Hall in the middle.

The grid was set out in 1257, after the Mongols burned the town, and the square has kept that shape ever since. The Cloth Hall began as rows of market stalls, was rebuilt in the sixteenth century and still sells things on the ground floor.

A trumpeter plays the hejnał from the taller tower of St Mary's every hour and breaks off in the middle of a phrase, a habit explained by a story about an archer's arrow. Under the paving is a museum built into the excavated medieval market level.
