Narvik City Centre, Nordland Live Cam

The roundabout at the centre of Narvik lies below this webcam, on the Ofotfjord in Nordland county, northern Norway. Kongens gate runs south from the junction, and a fountain with the town's freedom monument stands on the grass to the left.

Narvik exists because of the ore railway: the line from the mines at Kiruna in Sweden ends here at an ice-free harbour, and the town was fought over in 1940 for exactly that reason. The war museum stands on the square, and the fjord and the mountains behind it close every view out of the centre.

The town lies well inside the Arctic Circle, so the sun stays up around the clock in midsummer and does not rise at all for several weeks in winter. Snow lies on the tops in the frame for most of the year.
