Weather and time
The camera looks down on the Yanagimachi intersection in central Aomori, where National Route 4 crosses Yanagimachi-dori near City Hall. Zebra crossings frame all four sides of the junction, and cars and heavy trucks fill its wide lanes.
Route 4 is the longest national highway in Japan, running about 740 km from Nihonbashi in Tokyo to Aomori at the northern tip of Honshu. The prefectural government office is a short walk to the west, and the Shinmachi shopping street is a block to the north. Each August the illuminated floats of the Nebuta Festival parade along Route 4 through this district.
The high vantage point takes in the whole crossing, with weeping willows along the street on the left and a red-paved corner plaza on the right. In winter the camera is pointed in another direction to keep snow off it, so the picture may then differ.
